In lieu of any real Superbowl coverage (until later in the week when it's already tired out) I will link you to one of our classic article threads: Peyton Manning Cries. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Fox is the most trusted television news network in the country, according to a new poll out Tuesday. A Public Policy Polling nationwide survey of 1,151 registered voters Jan. 18-19 found that 49 percent of Americans trusted Fox News, 10 percentage points more than any other network. Thirty-seven percent said they didn't trust Fox, also the lowest level of distrust that any of the networks recorded. Read more.

Actually, this concept has been coalescing into its current state since about the late 19th century, and we can thank railroad barons for this precedent. While corporations had always been afforded limited rights, such as property ownership or contract-making, since the Renaissance, the idea that an inanimate entity was eligible for rights of personhood sprung from the 1886 case of Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad. Read the rest.

Only 16 percent of British small business managers think that the Internet has increased their operational efficiency, while nearly half think that it has made running their businesses more complex. That's according to a study carried out by the Cranfield School of Management on behalf of Pipex Business.
The survey of 422 SMEs, conducted by Cranfield, showed that despite a high level of SMEs embracing the Internet for their business (97 percent have email, 94 percent have broadband, and 84 percent have a website), 60 percent do not feel that the Internet has increased their operational efficiency.

The New York Times ran an interesting piece last week about the rise of for-profit colleges and the surging enrollment numbers they're seeing during the recession. In New York state, there's been a 61 percent increase in the number of students attending for profit schools over the last decade (compared to a 15 percent increase at SUNY). For-profit institutions like Devry and the University of Phoenix are luring students by touting their career placement numbers (Devry claims that over the last 30 years, 90% of its graduates had jobs within six months of finishing their studies) and their tight focus on giving students ready applicable skill sets.

It's an interesting question: why, when you, your chair, and sometimes even your computer move throughout the day, does your desk stay put? Herman Miller found it curious as well, and developed the Envelop Desk ($TBA) as an answer. Able to work with any seat but best paired with the company's Embody Chair, the Envelop's suface moves towards and away from you with a smooth sliding motion, keeping your work area ergonomically friendly even when you're reclining. We had a chance to try one out this past week at CES, and foresee a few landing at Uncrate HQ in the very near future.

The Canadian Supreme Court extinguished the last hopes of the female ski jumpers who were trying to have their event added to the Vancouver Olympics by refusing on Tuesday to hear the jumpers' appeal of an earlier court ruling. The women were attempting to argue that the Games were discriminating against them by including men's ski jumping but not women's, in violation of Canada's Charter of Rights.

Owner, Timothy d'Offay, a humble and genuine host, seems captivated by a passion for his teas. In 2000 his passion led him to start East Tea's in Borough Market, with Alex Fraser, selling specialist green and oolong teas imported direct from the tea producers and experts in east Asia. Postcard Tea's his next platform for teas, works with estates in the North East of India and the South of Sri Lanka. Each tea, carefully chosen and overlooked by Timothy, brings some of the worlds best black teas to London.

Located at the southern end of the Izu archipelago, Aogashima is one of Japan's most remote inhabited islands. The fewer than 150 residents are watched over by a lone policeman, whose duties include welcoming with a salute the daily helicopter that begins its trip from the island chain's northern end.
