My Ninja, Please! 3/29/10: Play Jail

Here’s one playground drama that’s deserving of attention: community activists recently discovered a jungle gym with a cell door, prison bars and the word "jail" painted on it at the Tompkins Houses, a housing project in Brooklyn. The playground just so happens to be in Bedford-Stuyvesant, a historically Black neighborhood with the largest prison population in the state. Coincidence? We think not. LINK

Um… so, I’m not trying to say that I’ve never heard of kids playing Cops & Robbers. But, damn, ninjas, how you gonna paint that in the playground? In Brooklyn?? Furthermore, residents said they spray-painted over the "jail" sign several times in protest, but the Parks Dept just kept coming back and restoring it. What kinda )*#& is that?! My ninjas, please.

Thanks to B for the link.
