Warren Ellis is apparently in the process of taking a number of Marvel characters in a new direction, adapting stories for multiple Japanese anime series. Currently their are four series planned - each somehow connected, and focusing on a particular Marvel character. So far only Iron Man and Wolverine have been named.

The shows are being produced by Japanese animation studio Madhouse - well known for a number of hugely popular projects, such as Ninja Scroll and Trigun.

Here are the trailers for the two series, which are set to be released in Japan in 2010. Iron Man looks like it could be interesting - Wolverine looks kind of ridiculous, but I have faith.

Taken for A Ride - Documentary

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2486235784907931000

Taken for a Ride is an amazing documentary by Jim Kleina and Martha Olson that documents the efforts to derail mass transit in America. Ever wonder why the U.S. has the worst mass transportation system in the industrialized world? Using historical footage and investigative research, this film tells how GM fought to push freeways into the inner cities of America, and push public transportation out.

Star Wars Dance Party?

I hate to post more Star Wars related content after featuring the Star Wars: uncut post last week - but really, I can’t help it. I mean, my ninjas - PLEASE! A part of my soul - and my childhood - died when I saw this video.

George Lucas, I can’t believe you allowed this to happen. Is nothing sacred anymore? How much money do you need?

Boston Herald: "Fade to Blacko"?

I’m not going to say that trying to be witty by combining ‘fade to black’ and ‘wacko jacko’ is itself definitely racist, as that would be a little overly sensitive, I think - but it’s definitely pretty ignorant and in poor taste. That said, it was the cover of the Boston Herald - which means it probably should be read as a racist remark. If nothing else, people should be wondering who in the hell runs that rag - considering this made it to press. I seriously believe this newspaper wants to be known for ignorant and hateful headlines - it’s sad.

The real reason I bring this up? I think it’s important that all you non-Bostonians out there understand what we’ll be stuck with if the Boston Globe and the NY Times don’t figure something out. I know that the Globe/Times story has been national news [at least if you read the Times], and I’m sure many of you didn’t care about the Globe’s future - but do you see what we’ll be stuck with if they close up shop? This is basically their standard stuff.

[Note: To be fair, the Herald doesn’t know any better - it’s a tabloid. But it will be the only newspaper in this bitch if the Globe goes under, which scares me.]

New York Drivers, the Angriest

YouTube Preview Image

I would be mad too if I had to root for A-Rod.AA Every once in a while there is a straight faced news story with a whole bunch of gems.AA We’ve gleaned the good glean.

NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) a€" New York has overtaken Miami to be voted the U.S. city with the angriest and most aggressive drivers, according to a survey on road rage released on Tuesday.

Miami topped the annual poll for the last four years but voters in 25 major metropolitan areas gave New Yorkers the prize for angriest, most aggressive drivers who tailgate, speed, honk their horns, overreact and lose their tempers.

The response of New Yorkers to bad drivers also helped push the city into the top slot for road rage.

"New Yorkers were most likely to wave their fists or arms. They were most likely to lay on the horn and they were most likely to make some sort of obscene gesture," said Michael Bush, of the marketing and consulting company Affinion Group, which commissioned the survey.

Dallas/Fort Worth came in second as the worst road rage city followed by Detroit, Atlanta and Minneapolis/St. Paul. Miami ranked a distant seventh.

"In Washington, D.C., four percent of drivers admitted to slamming into another driver," said Bush. "They stand out in that one particular category."

How many people are surprised about this one?AA I’m not trying to be funny, but… I’m wondering what percentage of the people surveyed were Haitian.AA I’m just saying.

This Film is not yet Rated

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-559517494445537267

The essential message of this film? The movie rating system we use in the US - which has a huge impact on the success of individual films - is basically meaningless, as there are no quantifiable standards.

Rusty DePass = Racist Jackass

m
Like the idea of an ignorant, racist Republican is shocking in any way. And also, for a racist-ish comment of my own: could this guy be an uglier, chubbier rich-white-guy? Damn.

In a comment on his Facebook page [you’re too old for facebook, asshole] South Carolina GOP activist and former chairman of the state elections commission Rusty DePass made the following comment about a gorilla that had escaped from a local zoo: "I’m sure it’s just one of Michelle’s ancestors - probably harmless."

He’s admitted he was referring to Michelle Obama, saying, "I am as sorry as I can be if I offended anyone. The comment was clearly in jest."

Offended anyone? "In jest"? Dude - WTF is your deal? Of course that’s offensive - what kind of idiot could even pretend to suggest he didn’t realize how people would take that kind of comment?

You’re a racist, and an asshole - and I hope the next time we hear about you it’s because someone’s smacked the bigot out of you [I’m available for said bigot-smacking all week - hit me on my cell].

Does anyone know how the GOP reacted to this? I don’t suppose the party as a whole had the sense to denounce his comments.

Seriously - if you can’t help but say ignorant things about the skin-tone of the first family: at least have the cajones to stand by your comments. People will still hate you for saying it, and you’ll look like an antiquated clown - but at least you won’t come off as a p@$$y.

Also, please, PLEASE, don’t go arguing some nonsense about evolution - we all know what the deal is when some white guy starts comparing gorillas to African Americans. I’ve already read some comments on other sites by some fool Repubs who are claiming this is a creationism vs evolution thing - which is complete and utter BS.
