RioFest International Film Festival
![bosque_thumb.jpg](http://www.myninjaplease.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/bosque_thumb.jpg)
The second RioFest International Environmental Film Festival kicks off this weekend in Socorro.
The event features 17 independent films, panels, a benefit luncheon and a discussion with performance artist, explorer and octogenarian activist Katie Lee. Lee battled the flooding of Glen Canyon in the 1960s and is only the third woman to run all of the Grand Canyon’s river rapids.
The events all take place at the Macey Center at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. The festival takes place Jan. 25-26.
Among the films are "Gimme Green," about America’s obsession with lawns, and "French Fries to Go" about Telluride, Colo.’s biodiesel project.
There will be panels on Rio Grande water issues and discussions with filmmakers. A GreenFeast on Saturday will raise funds for an ecologically friendly bus shelter at Socorro’s public charter school.

Thanks to our on-the-ground correspondent in Socorro, New Mexico, we found out about this tight festival going down in the cut of New Mexico. We thought it was appropriate to mention the festival on the site because it was the source of yesterday’s documentary, "Oil on Ice." Among other films, we also heard that Love Song to Glen Canyon, mentioned above, about an 80 year old environmentalist, is a really good flick. Try to check it out if you can and let us know what you think. You can check out a clip below.

Oil on Ice - Documentary
In a slight departure from our usual weekly documentary format, we present to you Oil on Ice. No, this isn’t Disney on Ice, but rather a documentary film about drilling in the arctic.
