The Atlantic Wall by Juan Medina- It is estimated that in 2003 alone, more than 7,000 immigrants from drought ridden nations such as Mali and Gambia, attempted the dangerous 100km sea passage to the Canary Islands.
Yerba mate — a caffeinated South American drink brewed like tea from the dried leaves of the mate plant — is a niche product in North America. Guayaki wants to take it mainstream. The 40-employee Sebastopol, Calif., company is trying to prove that a beverage popular with Whole Foods customers can win over 7-Eleven and Kroger's shoppers, too. Selling loose mate leaves and bottles and cans of the brew, 14-year-old Guayaki had $10 million in sales last year and is projecting $13 million in 2010. Few other beverage makers sell mate in the U.S. Two Coca-Cola brands recently entered the market: Honest Tea launched a mate line last year and Minute Maid started selling juices flavored with the herb in March.
Our mind, our thinking, has nothing in common with us, with our essence-no connection, no dependence. Our mind lives by itself and our essence lives by itself. When we say "to separate oneself from oneself" it means that the mind should stand apart from the essence. Our weak essence can change at any moment, for it is dependent on many influences: on food, on our surroundings, on time, on the weather, and on a multitude of other causes. But the mind depends on very few influences and so, with a little effort, it can be kept in the desired direction. Every weak man can give the desired direction to his mind. But he has no power over his essence; great power is required to give direction to essence and keep essence to it. (Body and essence are the same devil.)…

This is a reverse job application. I am done asking people to hire me, for several reasons. First and foremost, it clearly doesn’t work. Second, it closes me off to a lot of potentially amazing opportunities; I can only find and apply to so many jobs, and there are doubtlessly hundreds of thousands out there that I would be a great fit for. Third and finally, the application process undermines my value as a worker. I have gone my entire life consistently producing excellent results at every task I set my mind to, and quite frankly, employers should be coming to me, not the other way around.
Incumbents in markets - especially large and well entrenched markets - seldom survive fundamental technology changes in their industries. AIn a world where we've seen newspapers crumbling, record labels struggling and Blockbuster imploding and making way for the rise of Netflix it seems kinda intuitive to most of us but we can't quite place why this happens.
Ad hoc development processes are not efcient and not repeatable. They constantly must be reinvented making improvement nearly impossible. At a small scale, the costs may not matter, but large organizations cannot sustain them. From this discussion, more subtle questions also arise: How do we minimize risk while also maximizing creativity? When must we use a heavy-weight process? And when will a light-weight process sufce? What is the place of interaction design within the larger software development process? What is the place of the software development process within the larger business formation processes? What does it mean to conceive of business formation as a design process?
David Cameron will today set out a vision of London’s East End becoming a hi-tech rival to Silicon Valley on the US west coast, disclosing Google, Facebook and a host of cutting-edge firms have committed to invest in the Olympic Park. AIn a speech today, the prime minister will announce that he is introducing a new entrepreneurial visa as well as allowing more intra-company transfers - moves that will blow a hole in his plan for an immigration cap. ACameron will also disclose that he will look at a potentially far-reaching change to intellectual property rights after Google told him UK laws are far more restrictive than the US.
