Flailed ninja attempts robbery

(WCCO) Richfield, Minn. Richfield Police are looking for a man who attempted to rob a Lunds grocery store in Richfield Saturday evening dressed as a ninja.

According to authorities, the suspect entered the store at about 10:30 p.m. dressed in skin-tight black clothing and armed with a samurai-style sword.

The suspect stood in line before he demanded the cashier turn over the money in the register, reportedly waving his sword in the air.

The cashier and other customers inside thought the suspect was pulling a prank. The cashier refused to give the suspect the money and he fled the scene.

Richfield Police were called. They searched the neighborhood for the suspect but he managed to slip away into the night in the manner of a ninja.

Police request anyone with any information about the case contact them at (612) 861-9800.

Gangster moles

In South Korea, when it comes to job satisfaction, gangsters are happier with their lot than policemen, it seems.

A poll of 109 convicted mobsters by the Korean Institute of Criminal Justice found that 79.3 per cent were satisfied with a life of crime.

That compared favourably with the police, of whom only 65 per cent said they enjoyed their profession.

South Korean gangsters make on average about 4 million won (A£2,171) a month, which is typically higher than the pay for police.

The studies are not believed to have taken into account gangsters acting as moles within the police department, or undercover policemen posing as gangsters.

"Pssst! Twist One Up with The American Philosopher?"

As a philosopher I now always start with the moral imperative of life. It gives me an even, and irrefutable keel. Such is good philosophy. For those who try and argue against the moral imperative, it is not so much a sucker punch they receive, as it is like getting out of your boat, mid-ocean and watching it drift out of sight as the sun is going down on your bobbing in the wide water or your rationale.

The moral imperative of life is to live a life that detracts not at all from the lives available to those who will follow us into this world.

Gems are not for sale, but diamonds are

A man who tried to steal a A£1,750 engagement ring from a shop by swallowing it was caught after police ran a metal detector over his stomach, a court heard.

Simon Hooper, 28, initially denied the offence, but police X-rayed him and saw the diamond ring inside his body.

Police had to seek an extension of his custody time limit and waited three days outside his cell until the ring passed and they were able to recover it.

The destruction of Zazalpa is just one of dozens of unrelated drug skirmishes in Mexico with a common element: American guns.

Combat-style rifles are pouring into Mexico, aided by the end of the U.S. Assault Weapons Ban in 2004 and an arms race among several Mexican cartels battling for control of lucrative drug routes.

The weapons are purchased at stores and gun shows, then smuggled into Mexico under car seats or tucked into suitcases.

"There is a direct relationship between the flow of these weapons and the explosion of violence," said JosA© Luis Santiago Vasconcelos, Mexico’s deputy attorney general for organized crime.
