Keith Olbermann takes on Clinton and the Geraldine Ferraro scandal – calling on Clinton to do more to distance herself from the comments [and suggesting that they are part of a trend in Hillary's campaign to dismiss Obama as only in the race because of his race]. Plus, did you know this #*$%@ said this same thing about Jesse Jackson in 1988? Sounds like she’s been doing this crazy old rich white lady thing for decades.

Blazing Saddles Redux

1984

Geraldine Ferraro, half of the 1984 Democratic ticket that lost in a landslide to Ronald Reagan, is offering her political wisdom to the Democratic party. Her revelation: Obama is only winning because he’s black. Whoa! I never saw that one coming. Let’s stand back and take a snapshot of this event, because it’s got to be the first time in history that being black with a Muslim name was ever an advantage in politics outside of a majority black district. I imagine Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are kicking themselves for not playing up race more in their token runs at the White House.

Furthermore, she claims Obama is dividing the party.  How dare Barack inject negativity, savage attacks and race into a presidential race by actually winning. But, in all fairness, the right thing to do is let Ferraro clarify her position, in case she was misquoted. In an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, Ferraro said, “My comments have been taken so out of context and have been spun by the Obama campaign as racist that it’s doing precisely what they don’t want done — it’s going to the Democratic Party and dividing us even more.” Geraldine, you’re just the gift that keeps on giving!

How can assigning someone’s success to their race possibly be taken out of context? Maybe telling a California newspaper that, “if Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position.” OK, maybe this merited a response to Geraldine, but in a kinder, gentler form she’d better understand and not get offended, i.e. a musical, like “Fiddler on the Roof”. Obama could come out in a beard and hat and sing:

“If I were a white man,
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
All day long I’d biddy biddy bum.
If I were a free, white man.
I wouldn’t have to work hard.
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
In your campaign you biddy, diddy lost,
And Reagan diddle-didle-didle won”

His response would make about as much logical sense as Geraldine’s initial remarks, and she’d probably think it was hip-hop anyway, but it’s truly difficult to work up a righteous anger over a remark as inane as that. We don’t want her feelings to get hurt. Oh, this just in…she told ABC, “My concern has been over how I’ve been treated as well and hurt, absolutely hurt by how they have taken this thing and spun it to imply that in any way, any way I am racist,” she said. Whoop, there it is! She also said she has fought against discrimination for 40 years. Hmmmm…..sounds like Hillary’s resume writer. Maybe my history is faulty, but after losing to Reagan, I seem to recall two unsuccessful attempts at the Senate. Perhaps someone should remind Geraldine that she is actually not qualified to be giving advice in the first place. Advice should come from winners, not losers, innovators, not archaic technicians of failure. America needs new leadership…oops…sorry.

That’s HER line.

It’s Because I’m White

geraldine_ferraro.jpg

A member of the House of Representatives, Geraldine Ferraro is best known for being the first and only woman to represent a major party in a presidential election. Today she’s known for her support of the Clinton campaign – attacking the media, the Obama camp, and basically everyone else for being biased against a female candidate. Not only that, but she has made it a point that Obama plays the ‘race card’ too frequently [he has?], arguing both points February 26th on Tom Ashbrook’s NPR show ‘On Point‘ [Gender and the Clinton Campaign – definitely worth listening to, if you’re following the campaign].

“Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says, ‘Let’s address reality and the problems we’re facing in this world,’ you’re accused of being racist, so you have to shut up,” she told the Daily Breeze of Torrance, California. “Racism works in two different directions. I really think they’re attacking me because I’m white. How’s that?”In another interview Tuesday, she compared Obama’s situation to her own 24 years ago, when she was the first female candidate for vice president.

“I got up and the question was asked, ‘Why do you think Barack Obama is in the place he is today” as the party’s delegate front-runner?

“I said in large measure, because he is black. I said, Let me also say in 1984 — and if I have said it once, I have said it 20, 60, 100 times — in 1984, if my name was Gerard Ferraro instead of Geraldine Ferraro, I would never have been the nominee for vice president,” she said [CNN].

So…basically, to sum things up: it’s okay that she was almost VP because she’s a woman, but she’s using Barack’s being black to diminish his viability as a candidate. AND while she’s suggesting [inaccurately, I might add] that the Obama camp cries racist every time something doesn’t go their way [which they do NOT - they claim offense when OTHERS bring up ethnicity/skin color, which is Obama's right as the only non-white candidate in this race], she [and the Hillary campaign] are doing everything they can to force this whole ‘people don’t want Clinton to win because she’s a woman’ thing down our throats. Hypocritical? This ninja thinks so. I’m actually insulted by the suggestion that these WASPy rich ladies have it harder than a black man. And frankly, let’s face the facts: most people don’t care that Hillary’s a woman – people don’t like her because she’s herself, not because she has female parts.

Just to throw this out there: is anybody else simply exhausted by “rich white people” [since I already used the term WASP] and their ability to turn themselves into the victim in any and all situations? And the Clinton’s do it best – with their ‘vast right-wing conspiracy’ defense [and Bill’s being black, of course]. But seriously – when was the last time these people really got the short-end of the stick? The collapse of imperialism?

Open Letter to Hillary Clinton

You all should go check this article out over at the green site. It’s an open letter written by one of Hillary’s fellow Wellesly grads. An excerpt:

You have connections to Monsanto through the Rose Law Firm where you worked and through Bill who hired Monsanto people for central food-related roles. Your Orwellian-named “Rural Americans for Hillary” was planned with Troutman Sanders, Monsanto’s lobbyists.

Genetic engineering and industrialized food and animal production all come together at the Rose Law Firm, which represents the world’s largest GE corporation (Monsanto), GE’s most controversial project (DP&L’s – now Monsanto’s – terminator genes) [here], the world’s largest meat producer (Tyson), the world’s largest retailer and a dominant food retailer (Wal-Mart) [here].

[ ...]

What Bill did for Monsanto “genetic engineering” goes beyond inadequate concepts of giving corporate friends influence: He unleashed genetic engineering into the world. And then he helped close off people’s escape from it.

Clinton’s Campaign Management

hillary-clinton-ps.jpg

The New York Times is running an article this morning that questions the leadership and managemnet skills possessed my Mrs. William Clinton. The article suggests that Clinton has recently tried to have more of a hand in the actions of her campaign, but for much of this primary season she has taken a back seat and let her advisors handle much of the dirty work. My favorite piece was the attempt to justify all the bickering that seems to surface in the Clinton campaign:

“She thinks the way to manage effectively is to get a lot of smart people around who don’t agree and let them work out their differences creatively,” said Howard Wolfson, her communications director. “Let them hash through things, and as a result, you come up with the best process.”

Great strategy.

Peninsula Problems

Both Michigan and Florida had their caucus’ and primary’s results negated by their violations of DNC rules in scheduling their primaries too early. Now that the Democratic contest is in such a dead heat the Democrats in those States want their votes to count towards the delgate battle. I don’t blame them. So far it seems like Michigan will hold another caucus and pay for it themselves while Florida asked the DNC to foot the $18 million dollar tab. Howard Dean, the chair, said “no dice.”

Now, the Clinton camp doesn’t want a revote in Florida because they won. This will likely not hold up because a lot people didn’t vote on the grounds of it not emaning anything and no one campaigned there. The DNC will tell them they can pay for it themselves or sacrifice their votes. In Michigan, Obama nor Edwards were even on the ballot so if anything’s fair there, it’s a re-do. These States would be significant in deciding the nominee should their delegates count.

They Want Her Bad

hillary.jpg

The GOP really wants Hillary to win this thing. There is nothing that would give them more statisfaction than beating a Clinton in a Presidential race. In the past few weeks they have been dying to give us their input on why the Dems ought to go with Hillary over Obama, or concocting scenarios where she can do it. Robert Novak is one such Clinton supporter. In today’s Post he claims:

The decision to deprive Michigan and Florida of delegates because their primaries were scheduled too early cannot stand in a contested convention.

The force unleashed against Clinton if she wins the nomination would be unrelenting, cruel, and effective. Her greatest ally in the race would be gender, and half of the women in this country have a hard time giving her their support at the moment. You can give the independant vote to McCain in such a scenario too.

Her Time Will Come

untitled.jpg

[Remember when she looked like this?]

I am of the opinion that the press will turn on Hillary, and I hope they do it soon. There are basic things that the Clintons & Co. have to do that they have not done and that they have not been held accountable for. Andrew Sullivan seems to understand what’s coming and he can’t wait:

The secrecy and paranoia also remind one of the Clintons’ history, especially Senator Clinton’s. From Whitewater through the long nightmare of cattle-futures through legal documents mysteriously “discovered” long after they were sought, to the secret healthcare task force that helped kill healthcare reform for over a decade, the Clintons are now following their long pattern. They hide stuff they need to hide and stuff they don’t need to hide. What we are learning is that these people have not changed. And their sense of personal privilege, their boundless paranoia, and their constant lies about themselves must be front and center in this campaign. Do we want to go back there again? After Bush and Cheney, do we really want another couple of co-presidents in love with total secrecy and above-the-law personal privilege?

I can’t stand to listen to Hillary speak. That brutish, masculine tone she uses on the stump to compliment her handsome looks makes me nauseous.

Hope Gets Harder

large_obamapoint.jpg

Well, my ninjas, it’s a sad day for Obama supporters. Yesterday Sen. Hillary Clinton won three out the four contests and is likely to gain 10 delegates on Obama’s lead as a result. This still leaves her way behind in the count (around 140 back).

Many people are concerned that her success yesterday will flat-line Obama’s momentum (which attributed to his string of 12 consecutive primary and causcus victories throughout February). After considering the results of Clinton’s victories in Ohio, Texas and Rhode Island it seems to me that this ain’t no big thang. The fact that Obama did as well as he did in Texas is tribute to his outstanding campainging. That should have been 100% Hillary Country and he took a huge chunk of it. In the rural areas Hillary dominated, but in all the metropolitan areas Obama trounced her. Then there was Ohio. Now, I’ve never been there, there’s never been too much of a need for ninjas in Ohio, but from what I understand Ohio is not living in the 21st century. Racism is live and well in the south easetern part of the state, close to West Virginia, clearly not ready for Obama. But they would be for him over McCain, seeing as how voting GOP in 2004 has left a sour taste in their mouths (the mortgage crisis is very real in Ohio right now, and the economy was the most important issue there).

It’s also clear that Hillary’s bash techniques of the last two weeks have done wonders for her campaing. She told us in the most recent debate, “I am a fighter” and fighter she is. She has come at Obama on anything and everything that could possibly affect people’s opinion of the Illionois Senator and it has proven to work. NAFTA, Farrakhan, Rezwhatever, it’s all been effective. We should continue to expect to see more negative campainging from the Clintons, but also, don’t be surprised if Obama fights back in the coming weeks. You’d better believe there are some questionable behaviors in Hillary’s past, and the skeletons will be coming out of the closet (Bills’s over-seas business, tax forms, etc.). If Obama can win the coming contests I think more and more superdelagates will start showing their heads and show their support for Obama. The math is still way in his favor and his chances of gaining the nomination, despite recent events, are still great.

Is This It?

billhillary.jpg

Tomorrow’s the day, my ninjas. Sen. Hillary Clinton must win Ohio and Texas to have a chance at wooing enough super-delegates to make her the presidential nominee. Even if she wins both primaries, due to the Democrtic primary rules, the delgates will be proportionally split between she and Obama, leaving her trailing in pledged delegates. She has to win BIG. Considering Hillary’s bash techniques and quibbling, and Obama’s raw momentum I find it hard to imagine a Clinton surge tomorrow. That being said, the polls in these two States, for some ill-informed voterific reason, are really really close. Remeber, Obama has won 11 straight primaries and caucuses, leaving Hillary without a victory for the entire month of February. Also, ninjas should strongly consider the fact Sen. Barack Obama has a much better chance of beating Se. John McCain than Sen. Clinton does. Clintons just seem to have a bad habit of leaving a bad taste in peoples mouths (yes, that was an inuendo). All you ninjas out there who are voting tomorrow should browse through our archives and see just why we here at the dojo are so pro O. The other States holding contests tomorrow are: Wyoming, Vermont, Mississippi, and Rhode Island.

Is It Me?

120507hillary.jpg

Is it me, or does Hillary Clinton seem to think that every aspect of this Democratic primary is unfair?

It’s not fair that the media loves that she’s losing and loves to knock her down. It’s unfair that Obama released a mailer stating facts about her health plan. It’s unfair that she’s a women alone surrounded by men. And, now, it would most certainly be unfair if the superdelgates were to choose a side now. Her camp goes so far as to assume that should the super-delgates make up there mind now it would “end the nominating process.” This means they agree that Obama has all the momentum, and that if the supers had to decide now, he would win. What else is there to happen in this campaign that she’s waiting for? Does she have a hit out on Obama or something? What does she realistically think is going to happen in the next week? Yuh done, girl. There’s always 2016.
