Cam presents: Cousin Bang
I hope to God this isn’t the trailer for a real movie. Actually…
Can anybody verify this? It has all the makings of a hit- which leads me to believe it’s a one-off spoof (that, and it’s Cam’Ron).

The RZA remixes historical art
The Wu-Tang Clan chieftain’s new solo work is a set of limited-edition canvas prints featuring his mugshot plastered over a classic American painting

The RZA’s Victory or Death … soon to be followed by the Mona RZA?
History repeats itself. When Wu-Tang Clan formed in the 1990s, The RZA promised they would totally dominate the hip-hop scene within five years ? and they did, under his draconian leadership.
More than two centuries earlier in December 1776, George Washington’s ragged and hungry continental army had camped, apparently spent, on the Pennsylvania shore of the Delaware river. The American rebels were losing the War of Independence. What could be done? Washington chose a desperate tactic: he led his army in boats across the icy river to attack the British at Trenton. He survived the crossing, won the battle, and gave the revolution new hope and passion.
Victory or death ? and in both cases it was victory… Read the Rest
…oh SNAP
I thought the yo gabba gabba reference from Halloween was as hilarious as we were gonna get. This is on national TV, though.

Freestyle 101 with Del (& A+)
Have you people seen this G4 TV segment, Freestyle 101? It’s pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Really, G4? I’m intrigued. Who else wishes that A+ spit in this video?

a conspiracy on talbot avenue

On friday morning I went around the corner from my house to get a cup of coffee and ran into a frenzy of flashing lights. They had the street blocked off, ambulances, squad cars everywhere, and a SWAT truck… Now, in all of my days I have never seen this much police activity in a single location in response to an incident. Plenty of times I’ve seen a lot of police cars and blocked off streets, sure, but a SWAT team and multiple ambulances? I figured something serious must have gone down. So the next day when the story came out in the paper (the Globe had just the caption pictured above but the Boston Herald had a short piece on the event) I was surprised to learn that the commotion was caused over somebody who was threatening to commit suicide. This person was suspected to be armed, and may even have been threatening people outside of the house, but by the time that the ‘tactical entry team’ had entered the building he had managed to escape and evade capture. There are a number of reasons why this seems like an improbable story, and I wouldnt be surprised if there was something else going on behind the scenes here. On the other hand, if this really is what happened, how come the police department is using this type of resources and money for such an isolated and small event when they could use them to do something constructive about the violence that is plaguing young people in the community. Either way I would like to know more about this supposed suicide threat incident which to me seems like a coverup for some underhanded operations… I didnt say I know what really happened, I’m just sayin.

After 20 years of business on Warren Street in the heart of Boston’s Dudley Square, Funky Fresh Records is closing down next month. Sad news for music fans and members of the community alike…

This video was brought to my attention by my colleague Joseph P. I think maybe it is relevant in some way or another.

Greensleeves Signs Busy Signal and Gyptian

Fresh from getting bought out by VP, England’s Greensleeves records announced last week that it has signed a handful of Jamaica’s top recording artists and producers. Busy Signal, who has been riding the success of tunes like “The Days” and “Jail“, is slated to release his next album on Greensleeves sometime before 2009, and has signed a publishing contract with the label that will cover his publishing needs internationally. The thing that confuses me is what exactly does it mean to be signed to a label like Greensleeves? Busy’s first album was already released on the label, so what is the difference really? Will this mean that he is locked in to voicing tunes exclusively for producers that are also affiliated with the label? Next up is Gyptian, who came on the scene a few years back during the heyday of modern roots and lover’s rock known as ‘one-drop’. Gyptian had some big hits before releasing an LP on VP records entitled My Name is… Gyptian (possibly the worst album title ever… it was bad enough as a song). As far as I could tell he never really matched the momentum that he was working with before dropping the CD, but has recently made it back onto the charts with “I Can Feel Your Pain” which picks up where he left off on a popish lover’s rock tip. Apparently he has a next album by the same name due out this summer on… VP Records. My confusion continues. What does it mean that he signed to Greensleeves if his album is coming out on VP? And isnt VP the same thing as Greensleeves now just with a different name? Anyway, we may never know. On the producers front, Shane Brown and Llamar “Riff Raff” Brown also inked Publishing deals with the UK based company. Hopefully all of this will lead to some quality releases and wider exposure for these and other Jamaican artists, and not just to more confusion.
