It’s like…
…kicking off black history month with an Amos n Andy marathon on the radio.
So how does Denver Public Schools mark this august occasion? By offering a lunch menu on January 15 — the same day the city hosts the 25th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Business Social Responsibility Awards — that’s billed as "In Honor of M.L.King," and features "Southern Style" chicken, collard greens and sweet potatoes.
Yesterday, DPS apologized for the menu, which was "highly insensitive in light of certain hurtful stereotypes still harbored in parts of our society," according to a statement posted on the district’s web site. Read More.
Although chicken and yams sounds delicious, I sincerely hope it wasn’t a black person who thought of this.

Village Voice’s Top 50 Worst of the 00’s

Super lame songs by charity "supergroups" have been the most expensive form of self-parody ever since Bob Geldof scribbled the word "Do" in "Do They Know It’s Christmas." Since its mid-’80s "We Are The World… Again" heyday, this blustery tradition has been the target of like a dozen Saturday Night Live sketches and at least two winky-winky parody all-"star" indie rock viral events, in 2005 and 2009. So yeah, it’s almost hack of me to bag on these cornball Artists Against Obscurity clusterfucks. Fortunately the expiration date on bagging on Fred Durst still has a couple of months left. Read More.
