Shaq Demoted

1_61_shaq_officer.jpg

So, if you didn’t know already, Shaq got his honorary badge revoked for that little video we posted yesterday.AA Well… not because we posted it but because he did it and the word got out.AA Now instead of being an official Big Ninja with a Fake Badge he has been demoted to the title of simply Big Ninja.AA The removal of the badge actually helped his ninja-worthiness, though I’m not sure it curtailed his dream to one day actually be a lawman.AA Anyway, read below:

PHOENIX — Shaquille O’Neal will lose his special deputy’s badge in Maricopa County because of language he used in a rap video that mocks former teammate Kobe Bryant.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the Phoenix Suns center’s use of a racially derogatory word and other foul language left him no choice. Arpaio made Shaq a special deputy in 2006 and promoted him to colonel of his largely ceremonial posse later that year.

"I want his two badges back," Arpaio told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "Because if any one of my deputies did something like this, they’re fired. I don’t condone this type of racial conduct."

Shaq was seen in a video posted on the celebrity news and gossip Web site TMZ.com rapping that "Kobe couldn’t do without me." O’Neal skewers the Lakers’ star, with whom he won three straight NBA titles from 2000-2002 while with Los Angeles, for not being able to win a championship without him.

"I was freestyling. That’s all. It was all done in fun. Nothing serious whatsoever," O’Neal told ESPN.com Monday. A call to the Suns on Tuesday seeking comment from O’Neal was referred to his public relations firm, which didn’t immediately respond.

Arpaio, who describes himself as "America’s Toughest Sheriff" and is best known for feeding jail inmates green bologna, clothing them in pink underwear, and making them work on chain gangs, said he didn’t expect his actions would teach Shaq a lesson. But he hoped he learns that as a role model who wants to someday be a full-time sheriff, he needs to know his words matter.

Shaq also said something about winning his first championship and making a rap about Vlade Divacs (see below).AA Either which way, who the hell are they going to send to get those badges back.AA A badge wasn’t the only thing that made Shaq intimidating.AA At 7’1″ - 300 lbs. it could be believable to the average person if you told them Shaq ate their baby.

My Ninja, Please! 6/24/08: Shaq as a Rapper

Now don’t get me wrong… it’s funny that the guy disses Kobe every chance he gets.AA That’s my favorite part, anyway.AA Just check out the video.

YouTube Preview Image

Highlight: "Kobe-tell me how my ass taste"

The big question that I have, in the face of all this foolishness is, what makes this guy think he can rap, still.AA [ clarification:AA not "think he can still rap," but rather, "think he can rap, still" ]AA First of all, it seems that somebody failed to tell him that rappers don’t make money - at least not like ball players.

Come to think of it, most of us over the age of 17 remember the rap catastrophe that was "Shaq Diesel’ back in the 90s.AA In fact, the thought brings on nausea.

Underwater Sculpture Reef

Even though we’ve been majorly slacking off on our ART DAY! representation - you all already should know how we feel about art. Right? Just checking.

That being said, this project by Jason de Caires Taylor was lifted from the pages of Modern Design - a European freeware mag in which MNP was recently featured.

Words cannot describe how beautiful and absolutely haunting these statues are. The most astute and learned of our readers will even notice the allusion to Mt. Vesuvius tossed in there for fun.

The best thing about these sculptures is that they are there to help produce a natural (naturally man made, anyway) reef for all the pretty fishies. Preserving the ecosystem is paramount for Taylor, and the big draw for artificial reef is that it alleviates pressure from the naturally occurring and rapidly disappearing counterparts.

This project is also a study of and a metaphor for "change over time." As our original source says, Jason’s sculptures gradually give way to their sea environments, changing, changing and changing, and likely even disappearing over time - all to promote ocean awareness. These sculptures are visitable by glass-bottomed boat and/or underwater scuba tour.

Assterisk

(Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A woman who says she was hurt by her thong panties when a metal clip flew off and hit her in the eye has sued Victoria’s Secret, saying in a TV interview on Thursday that the injury caused her "excruciating pain."

Macrida Patterson, a 52-year-old Los Angeles traffic officer, told NBC’s "Today" show that she suffered cuts to her cornea from the small piece of metal that had been used to secure a rhinestone heart onto the blue thong.

"I was putting on my underwear from Victoria’s Secret and the metal popped in my eye. It happened really quickly. I was in excruciating pain. I screamed. That’s what happened," Patterson told NBC.

Patterson’s lawyer Jason Buccat, who also appeared on the "Today" show, said the metal staple causes "severe damage" to her cornea that required a topical steroid.

The product liability lawsuit, which was filed on June 9 in Los Angeles Superior Court and first reported on the Smoking Gun Web site, seeks unspecified damages.

A spokeswoman for Victoria’s Secret, which is operated by Limited Brands Inc, could not immediately be reached for comment.

I don’t know what kills me more… the story or the picture.

Reactogon

A multi touch-sensitive music arpeggiator? Pffft…

If only I had owned one of these back in ’95, I’d be a different man today.

A Touching Story…

I didn’t know if I should post this or not, but after a short period of deliberation, it was decided that this too had it’s place here at MNP…

…amongst the absolutely ridiculous. Frame two in the top row is an extremely critical situation.
