Village Voice’s Top 50 Worst of the 00’s
Super lame songs by charity "supergroups" have been the most expensive form of self-parody ever since Bob Geldof scribbled the word "Do" in "Do They Know It’s Christmas." Since its mid-’80s "We Are The World… Again" heyday, this blustery tradition has been the target of like a dozen Saturday Night Live sketches and at least two winky-winky parody all-"star" indie rock viral events, in 2005 and 2009. So yeah, it’s almost hack of me to bag on these cornball Artists Against Obscurity clusterfucks. Fortunately the expiration date on bagging on Fred Durst still has a couple of months left. Read More.

RZA’s Directorial Debut
In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Wu-Tang Clan Abbott the RZA shed some new light on his directorial debut, the Kung-Fu flick, The Man With The Iron Fist. The movie, written and to be directed by Robert Diggs and produced by Eli Roth (Hostel), which sees the musical mastermind utilize his vast creativity for the silver screen has secured financially backing, but it is unclear as to when production will actually commence.
The Staten Island native has garnered strong support for his entrance into the world of directing having studied under Quentin Tarantino. The duo, which shares a mutual respect for martial art movies and cinematography, established a strong working relationship after RZA was asked by the prolific director to craft the scores for his Kill Bill movies. Guitar Center today announced Ramon Sampson as the winner of Guitar Center’s Drum-Off, the search for the nation’s top undiscovered drummer. Performing in front of a capacity crowd this past Friday, January 8th at The Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, 19-year-old Ramon Sampson from Cordova, Tennessee beat out four other Drum-Off finalists from all across the country, winning a prize package worth more than $40,000 and earning the title of Guitar Center’s Drum-Off Champion. Ramon was chosen by a panel of judges that featured some of today’s most respected and distinguished drummers including the legendary Peter Erskine (Steely Dan), Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Drew Hester (Foo Fighters / Joe Walsh), Thomas Lang, Jason Sutter (Chris Cornell), Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp / Sessions Legend), John Tempesta (The Cult), Tony Royster Jr. (Jay-Z), Nisan Stewart (Jamie Foxx / 50 Cent) and Ray Luzier (Korn).
