Sundance Channel: Architecture School

All I have to say is: it’s about feckin’ time.

The Sundance Channel’s new reality series, Architecture School, premiered last Wednesday night. Unfortunately I slept, and didn’t realize that the series was finally starting up - but lucky for me, and any of you ninjas out there that missed it too, Sundance will air a rerun this Wednesday night before the new episode airs.

The clips look both interesting and hilarious - giving me high hopes for the show, thinking that it might actually capture some of the ridiculousness that is the architecture studio in a school. The show follows students from Tulane as they participate in a design-build studio - first choosing one of their designs for an afforable home for a family who lost their home to Katrina - then moving on to the actual building of the home, which the students will also be involved in. Really, it should be an interesting show - full of insights into the design process, and [I hope] the ignorance that happens late-night in the studio.

Architecture School airs Wednesday nights at 9:00 [with a rerun of the previous episode at 8:30] on Sundance [sorry Project Runway, but you’re out].

I watched this Sunday morning and thought it was definitely worth sharing. I feel as if the Tibet situation [travesty, really] is something that people think is wrong and want to help - yet many don’t fully understand the complexities of what’s going on, or the Dalai Lama’s opinion on how things should be handled.

"Ninja Warriors" Arrested In N.J.

Clifton police say they arrested two men dressed liked ninjas and armed with Asian martial arts weapons who said they were sending a warning to drug users.

Calling themselves "Shinobi warriors," the men wore black SWAT-type vests and carried knives, throwing stars, swords, nunchucks and a bow and arrows.

Twenty-year-old Tadeusz Tertkiewicz and 19-year-old Jesse Trojaniak are charged with weapons possession. Tertkiewicz is also charged with harassment for a letter left for an ex-girlfriend.

After being arrested early Wednesday in a car on Route 46, the men said they were delivering warning letters to drug dealers and drug users urging them to stop their "impure" activities.

Their weapons, Detective Capt. Robert Rowan told The Bergen County Record, were to be a precaution in case they were confronted by the drug dealers.
The officers who arrested the men found the letters in five envelopes decorated with red Chinese designs, The Record reports.

Reports show the two men had already delivered one such letter to Tertkiewicza€™ 16-year-old ex-girlfriend in Clifton. Police contacted the teen and her mother and alerted them to the situation.

The letters warned drug users and drug dealers that the a€oeShinobi will stop your cruel and sadistic intentions with justified yet, merciful force.a€A

In the letter, the two men accused drug dealers and users of having a€oecommitted sin of passing impuritya€A to others and that the a€oewind guides us to those of impure heart and intent.a€A

a€oeTheir intentions may have been good, but we tell everyone that they shouldna€™t take the law into their own hands because it will cause more problems for everyone in the longrun,a€A Rowan said.

Trojaniak’s father tells The Associated Press his son is "not a maniac" and was only trying to help a friend.

Upright [3 Day] Wake

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - A Puerto Rican man has been granted his wish to remain standing a€" even in death. A funeral home used a special embalming treatment to keep the corpse of 24-year-old Angel Pantoja Medina standing upright for his three-day wake.

Dressed in a Yankees baseball cap and sunglasses, Pantoja was mourned by relatives while propped upright in his mother’s living room.

In front of me stand a gang of hippiesh grunge-punk types, who crowd around each other and collectively scoff at the smoking laws by sneaking puffs of a€oefuck-you,a€A reveling in their perceived rebellion as the haggard, staggering staff look on without the slightest concern.

The a€oeDJa€A is keystroking a selection of MP3s off his MacBook, making a mix that sounds like he took a hatchet to a collection of yesteryear billboard hits, from DMX to Dolly Parton, but mashed up with a jittery techno backbeat.

Bigfoot? Looks fake to us…

A policeman and a former corrections officer say that on Friday they will unveil evidence of what they claim is their biggest find ever: the body of Bigfoot.

Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer, a pair of Bigfoot-hunting hobbyists from north Georgia, say they found the creature’s body in a wooded area and spotted several similar creatures that were still alive.

The carcass of the furry half-man, half-ape is 7 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs more than 500 pounds, they say. However, the two are not disclosing the exact location of their discovery to protect the remaining creatures.

Well, good thing they killed it - an animal thought to be myth, shot by some rednecks. Looks to me like a gorilla suit stolen from the set of Planet of the Apes anyways…

So, because I spend too much time online I’ve ecently learned that September is National Velociraptor Awareness Month - sponsored by the American Society for Velociraptor Attack Prevention, along with the North American Velociraptor Defense Association and the United Velociraptor Widows Fund.

The American Society for Velociraptor Attack Prevention is a bi-partisan group of professionals, dedicated to the diffusion of knowledge concerning velociraptor attack prevention.

Know the Enemy

The velociraptor is a bipedal carnivore with a long, stiffened tail and can be distinguished from other dromaeosaurids by its long and low skull, with an upturned snout. It bores a relatively large, sickle-shaped claw, typical of dromaeosaurid and troodontid dinosaurs. This enlarged claw, up to 67 millimeters (2.6 in) long around its outer edge, is a predatory device, used to tear into the prey, delivering a fatal blow.
