The Man in a Van Project
The beat-up 1989 Dodge van carries a sign with a question: "How has the recession affected you?" Along the side, a request: "Tell me your story."
Scrawled in marker across the orange paint are hard-luck tales: "My grandma lost her house and my dad is working less hours," signed Peoria, AZ. "I lost my job, my home, my car & was homeless for 6 months. This was the first time in 27 yrs I was out of work," signed Sue W.
The man behind the wheel is Aaron Heideman, 29, an artist from Grants Pass, Ore., who in the past year began sleeping in the van on a mattress he bought for a six-pack of beer and lost his job at a paint store. He hit the road July 1 with what he calls "The Man in a Van Project," angling for a $250,000 prize at an art fair.
"I just want to give people a voice," he said during a stop in Rhode Island, the 20th state he stopped in during what he calls a nationwide conceptual art piece. His media, as he describes it: a 50-yard roll of Tyvek, a Dodge van, and a homeless man (himself). His final destination is Grand Rapids, Mich., home of ArtPrize, where he plans to display his project in September and October.
During Heideman’s stops, he unscrolls several feet of the roll, lays it in front of the van with a couple of Sharpie markers, and encourages passers-by to pause for a minute and add their thoughts.

Vertical, 2D Living
I’m not sure that this is these two ninjas are still going strong - but lived 12 hours a day on the side of a building! Ridiculous!
Two brothers in Brazil are literally living on the outside of a building in Rio?s Old Center. Since May, twenty-seven-year-old Tiago Primo and his twenty-year-old brother Gabriel, have been sleeping, working and eating on the side of a building 33 feet up in the air for twelve hours every day. They plan to continue this display until August.
My ninjas, PLEASE.

Iron Man + Wolverine Anime
Warren Ellis is apparently in the process of taking a number of Marvel characters in a new direction, adapting stories for multiple Japanese anime series. Currently their are four series planned - each somehow connected, and focusing on a particular Marvel character. So far only Iron Man and Wolverine have been named.
The shows are being produced by Japanese animation studio Madhouse - well known for a number of hugely popular projects, such as Ninja Scroll and Trigun.
Here are the trailers for the two series, which are set to be released in Japan in 2010. Iron Man looks like it could be interesting - Wolverine looks kind of ridiculous, but I have faith.

Advertising…On the Moon
While obviously ridiculous for any number of reasons, a company called Moon Publicity is insisting that they are developing what they call ‘shadow shaping’ technology - which would allow them to place your advertisement on the Lunar surface. A robotic rover would basically leave impressions on the Moon’s surface with it’s wheels, which are designed to be visible from the Earth due to the shadow cast. The rover drives around, creates your ad or logo, and terrestrial viewers run out to buy your product. When time is up on your ad, I assume, things raked smooth somehow and the space is sold again.
Somewhere, a true ninja is crying at the mere thought of this.

Daring GI Joe Cartoon Escapes
Slate magazine has put together a fairly hilarious slideshow documenting a number of the most impressive and daring escapes featured in the GI Joe cartoon from the ’80s.
The first war between G.I. Joe and Cobra (1985-86), as documented in the G.I. Joe animated series, was the most violent conflict in history never to result in a single casualty. Through a combination of terrible aim, superhuman jumping ability, and impossibly reliable parachutes, every combatant escaped even the most dire of situations without so much as the angle of his beret askew. The G.I Joe series is an ode to the improbable escape, and the thrill of the violence comes not from the possibility of death but from the zany ways the Joes and Cobras avoid it.

Taken for A Ride - Documentary
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2486235784907931000Taken for a Ride is an amazing documentary by Jim Kleina and Martha Olson that documents the efforts to derail mass transit in America. Ever wonder why the U.S. has the worst mass transportation system in the industrialized world? Using historical footage and investigative research, this film tells how GM fought to push freeways into the inner cities of America, and push public transportation out.

Star Wars Dance Party?
I hate to post more Star Wars related content after featuring the Star Wars: uncut post last week - but really, I can’t help it. I mean, my ninjas - PLEASE! A part of my soul - and my childhood - died when I saw this video.
George Lucas, I can’t believe you allowed this to happen. Is nothing sacred anymore? How much money do you need?

Star Wars: uncut
Star Wars Uncut - Scene 046 from BaronMunchausen on Vimeo.
What’s better than watching Star Wars? Reenacting it, of course! Star Wars: uncut allows you to sign up to reenact a 15 second scene from Sar Wars episode IV. When all the scenes have been completed, they’ll be stitch together to make one hell of a ridiculous looking movie…should be great.
If you’re interested, sign up for a scene now - there aren’t many left!
Those of you who aren’t moved to film something yourselves, I sugest you still go check out the scenes that are already finished - some are pretty feckin’ hilarious.
