MNP Bump: Rolcats
It’s not often that we return to a blog on which we previously posted, given the number of one hit wonders out here on the internets, but sometimes we do. One of our favorites has been "F*ck You, Penguin," which you may recall was posted here just at the end of last year. Part of what I like about it, I must admit, is that it constantly has new content.
The reason why I’m bringing them up is because they have apparently released an entire book of cute-animal-bashing hilarity. They’ve also got T-shirts and hoodies and stuff. All of this activity appears to have happened right after our initial post, and so shall henceforth be attributed to the "MNP bump." Anyway, this is a good segue into the point of this post.
Scrolling through the comments left on the site I found this cute little gem… a blog focused on translating the Eastern European versions of lolcats into capitalism-friendly consumer conscious English (see example below). This joint really had me lollerskating, and I’m betting Rolcats will have a similar effect on you. Check it out.
Commissar Markov has long been a loyal party member, but I fear his growing influence in state policy. Perhaps it is time to cash in a favor from my friends at the Kremlin.

Obama, Just Saying ‘No’
In the not-so-important but definitely over-hyped Obama ‘online townhall’ - where the President took questions in the form of Youtube videos voted-on by internet users - Obama took the time to address a question that received a great number of votes, but that he would not be discussing in-depth: legalization of marijuana.
Now, I didn’t expect this President to legalize marijuana - but his age, and previous comments about ‘inhaling frequently’ had me thinking he wouldn’t end up dropping some condescending bullshit like "I don’t know what this says about the online audience".
Well, Mr President, I’ll tell you what it says about the online audience - the audience that you exploited to elect you [you have a feckin’ Twitter account - give me a break], and that you’ve made such a show of addressing in this silly ‘online townhall’ [and you know, forget the question itself - this could have been any topic, and just happens to be about marijuana use]. It says that we have legitimate views that you need to take the time to adequately and professionally address. It says that by electing you we thought certain completely valid issues would once again be discussed intelligently and maturely by the American people and our government. But instead, the question is the punchline of a Washington joke.
You’re looking more and more Presidential everyday, Mr. Obama - and that shit isn’t a compliment.

Obama becomes visible in Space
President Obama recently held a conference call with some local school children and residents of the International Space Station. Apparently the focus of the conversation was the fashionably loud hair of one of the astronauts. Obama thought the hair was a definite "fashion statement."
Is this Obama’s new stance on hair styles, or is this strictly for the cosmonauts? How is the ISS member behind said long hair making that symbol with his hand?
What questions would you ask if you had a minute or two with the space walkers?

Senator to AIG Execs : Think Suicide
Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley has suggested that AIG executives should do the only honorable thing - commit ritual suicide, samurai-style.
"I suggest, you know, obviously, maybe they ought to be removed," Grassley said. "But I would suggest the first thing that would make me feel a little bit better toward them if they’d follow the Japanese example and come before the American people and take that deep bow and say, I’m sorry, and then either do one of two things: resign or go commit suicide.
"And in the case of the Japanese, they usually commit suicide before they make any apology."
My ninjas, PLEASE. That’s just too too serious…

Pope: Condoms don’t prevent AIDS?
The Pope courted further controversy on his first trip to Africa today by declaring that condoms were not a solution to the Aids epidemic a€" but were instead part of the problem.
In his first public comments on condom use, the pontiff told reporters en route to Cameroon that Aids "is a tragedy that cannot be overcome by money alone, and that cannot be overcome through the distribution of condoms, which even aggravates the problems".
Pope Benedict has previously stressed that the Roman Catholic Church is in the forefront of the battle against Aids. The Vatican encourages sexual abstinence to fight the spread of the disease.
I think that all of us with some com-sense can agree that this is irresponsible. I mean, have NO stance on condoms, and simply condemn sex / preach abstinence. Then when some NGO is handing out Trojans, people won’t think "wait, the Pope / my local priest said these things don’t even work", and toss them aside. Seems simple enough.
[note: yes, St Patty’s Day is the perfect time to call out the Pope, as he understands that all of my people are smash-faced]

Economy Down, Recruiting Up
[I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to feel about this poster…]
The faltering US economy is fueling a dramatic turnaround in military recruiting, with new statistics showing that the Army is experiencing the highest rate of new enlistments in six years.
The Army exceeded its goals each month from October through January - the first quarter of the new fiscal year - for both the active-duty Army and the Army Reserve, according to figures compiled by the US Army Recruiting Command.
Officials said it is the first time since the first quarter of fiscal year 2003, before the start of the Iraq War, that the Army has started out its recruiting year on such a high note.
