A Crude Awakening - Documentary

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8183966529898602701

Monday Monday Monday…must mean it’s time for a documentary to learn you ninjas something for the beginning of the week. This here is a little bit doomsday-ish, but the reality is that peak oil is either here now or about to be - and the $hit is going to hit the fan. Let’s just all hope that the projections made by many in this film are wrong…

Barack Obama’s 2005 Chrysler 300C

titleimg.jpg

You might not be a future president, but you can drive like one.

President-elect Barack Obama’s 2005 Chrysler 300C is up for auction on eBay.

The current owner is Illinois restaurant manager Tim O’Boyle. Bidding on the ’05 Chrysler starts at $100,000.

Under eBay’s "Buy It Now" option, the price is a cool $1 million.

Of course, a new 300C is a lot cheaper, aroundAA$27,000.

O’Boyle bought the car after Obama had leased it.

O’Boyle says the Obama car has less than 21,000 miles on it and is in great shape.

You’re Still an A$$hole

cadillac-escalade-hybrid-2009-738374.jpg

I’ve been noticing more and more ads recently for the new Cadillac Escalde Hybrid [feels dirty to say/type it], and I just wanted to take a quick second here to shout out all you Escalade buyers out there: You still suck. Buying an Escalade because it has Hybrid decals on it makes you about as cool as VD.

But wait, you heard it’s 50% more fuel efficient [city driving]? True! That gets you a whopping 20 mpg! Now we won’t have to drill offshore and in wildlife refuges! Yay! You’re really doing your part.

So to you Escalade drivers, I say this:

[Soccer Moms] - You’re not protecting your children by buying huge SUVs, you’re simply endangering the rest of us. Please, cut the crap.

[Hood Ninjas] - Real gangsters are all about that paper paper peoples - save some money on gas by buying a Prius. Plus, there’s this:

The 65 mpg Ford the U.S. Can’t Have

econeticmnp.jpg

If ever there was a car made for the times, this would seem to be it: a sporty subcompact that seats five, offers a navigation system, and gets a whopping 65 miles to the gallon. Oh yes, and the car is made by Ford Motor, known widely for lumbering gas hogs.

Ford’s 2009 Fiesta ECOnetic goes on sale in November. But here’s the catch: Despite the car’s potential to transform Ford’s image and help it compete with Toyota Motor and Honda Motor in its home market, the company will sell the little fuel sipper only in Europe. "We know it’s an awesome vehicle," says Ford America President Mark Fields. "But there are business reasons why we can’t sell it in the U.S." The main one: The Fiesta ECOnetic runs on diesel.

Walk, Don’t Walk

virtual_wall.jpg

Imagine a force field generator that would protect pedestrians from oncoming traffic that failed to stop at a traffic light. Sounds great, right?

Well this isn’t that.

It is, however, an interesting proposal by product designer Hanyoung Lee entitled Virtual Wall - that is meant to protect the pedestrian crossing the street by creating a more physical barrier than the typical stop light.
virtual_wall2.jpg

Would this work? I’d guess it would, for a little while anyways - seeing some kind of laser show displaying moving images of people crossing the street, instead of just an 8 inch diameter red light, will probably catch people’s attention. At least until they get used to these things…
