MNP Reviews the Nintendo 3DS

Pleased to welcome author, Bruce Kent to the dojo- his review of the Nintendo 3DS.

Till death do us part! Nintendo has come through for gamers as well as their competitors alike and have proven through the test of time that they will continue to be the leading figure in gaming innovation. There is no better feeling than to expect to be amazed at the revealing of new toys and technologies upon their release and not excluding the Virtual Boy they exceed all expectations. In our age the Nintendo 3DS has in my opinion been the best step forward in advanced entertainment since the dawn of the internet.

Playing only Nintendo games for over twenty five years I have kept silent up until now about my pledge to leave the safety and growth of a large part of my imagination and artistic development in the hand of Nintendo…but this is too much for me to handle… I need to say thank you for all of the pleasures you have brought to the world Nintendo…and for you future plans. There is no doubt in my mind that whatever happens next will be completely over the top..

Everyone who wants to be informed about what the 3DS is already is…it is simply amazing…to say the least…there is not one negative thing for me to say about the system except it is very hard to stop playing it… I foresee a Nobel Prize in the making…this is my prediction…

For those looking to get spec info or game details don’t bother yourself….just go out and buy one…its for your own good… OMG….I have to stop writing this review so I can feed my new Nintendogs… I can’t wait to see what the upgrade will be like…. Nintendo 3DS.t.a.r. platform! That’s what I would call it for the moment!

What is Expertise?

Among investigators of expertise, it has generally been assumed that the performance of experts improved as a direct function of increases in their knowledge through training and extended experience.  However, recent studies show that there are, at least,  some domains where "experts" perform no better then less trained individuals (cf. outcomes of therapy by clinical psychologists, Dawes, 1994) and that sometimes experts’ decisions are no more accurate than beginners’ decisions and simple decision aids (Camerer & Johnson, 1991; Bolger & Wright, 1992). Most individuals who start as active professionals or as beginners in a domain change their behavior and increase their performance for a limited time until they reach an acceptable level. Beyond this point, however, further improvements appear to be unpredictable and the number of years of work and leisure experience in a domain is a poor predictor of attained performance (Ericsson & Lehmann, 1996). Hence, continued improvements (changes) in achievement are not automatic consequences of more experience and in those domains where performance consistently increases aspiring experts seek out particular kinds of experience, that is deliberate practice (Ericsson, Krampe & Tesch-Römer, 1993)-activities designed, typically by a teacher, for the sole purpose of effectively improving specific aspects of an individual’s performance.

My Ninja, Please! 3.22.11 : Kid Lotto

I wonder if any of them won…

Gidani’s PlaySALottery, a website that allows punters to buy Lotto tickets online and from their cellphones, was suspended for just more than a week because a technical glitch would have allowed children under the age of 11 to register and play. (Source)

Cultural References

The video below is both humorous and curious in its stage-y, daytime TV’d out way. If you don’t speak Spanish, well, first of all, you should probably learn Spanish. But, if’n you don’t, they’re basically saying that they took the little girl seen in the video, put her in a white camisole, brushed her hair, and stationed her creepily in a hotel lobby. They stress that they did nothing else to the girl, sans makeup or special effects. Watch how people react at the slightest allusion to "The Shining." Again, humorous and curious.

I would also like to point out that the cleaning lady’s reaction is perfectly priceless. The three or four different scenarios I can imagine for her are absolutely blowing my mind. This hearkens back to our Japanese Video of the Week days, eh?
