Having trouble quitting? Nicotine levels are on the rise…

Further proof that Joe Camel and the Marlboro Man don’t deserve ninja status:

A new report by the Massachusetts Department of Health details how the level of nicotine found in US cigarettes has risen about 10 percent in the past six years, making it hard to quit and easier to get hooked.AA The study shows a steady climb in the amount of nicotine delivered to the lungs of smokers regardless of brand, with overall nicotine yields increasing by about 10 percent. Massachusetts is one of three U.S. states to require tobacco companies to submit information about nicotine and the only state with data going back to 1998.

An excerpt: "The study found the three most popular cigarette brands with young smokers - Marlboro, Newport and Camel - delivered significantly more nicotine than they did years ago. Nicotine in Kool, a popular menthol brand, rose 20 percent. More than two-thirds of black smokers use menthol brands."

Getting Branded

"The manner in which we spend our money defines who we are. This theory isn’t exactly new. Thorstein Veblen conjured the phrase "conspicuous consumption" back in 1899 in his book the Theory of the Leisure Class. In this secular society of ours, where family and church once gave us a sense of belonging, identity and meaning, there is now Apple, Mercedes and Coke."

Neil Boorman decides to start a brand-free life.

Even Further Signs of Impending Apocalypse: Let my auto gooo

Remember how like, back in the 80’s there was all this (mostly)AAmedia-generated fear that robots would begin to take human jobs?AA Yeah, well, it’s hazy for me too but it’s apparently already happened.AA In Jersey, for instance,AAa robot is used to park cars at the Garden Street Garage.

Um… but that’s not even the point.AA The point is that said robot recently experienced a slight hiccup the other day and ended up imprisoning everybody’s car in the garage.AA What was the cause ofAAthis slight hiccup you ask? Software license issue.AA Apparently the state of Dirty Jerz sent all of Clearwater Florida’s "Robotic Parking" employees home but didn’t realize that letting go of the employees included letting go of the license.AA

Basically everybody’s car was trapped by a behemoth Tachikoma spider tankAAwhile court battles raged.AA See, if a ninja had been there there wouldn’t have been any of that software license talk.

We All Know Real Ninjas Walk in Silence…

But who said anything about gaudy belt buckles?

And I would have remained silent if I thought some of you out there weren’t that ninja-ish. But alas, you are, and I have therefore chosen to inform you of one of the greatest revelations of the tech world: The tackiness of the LED belt buckle can be surpassed!

And it has, in the Egokast Video Belt Buckle, a video and music player that can playback MP3s, MPEG4s and AVIs, storing clips on a MiniSD card.

About $300, payable through Paypal.

Budapests Everywhere

Watch your chain and watch your HD raw footage while abroad. BBC sent their master tapes to Hungary for editing at Tiger Aspect Productions and ninjas swiped that plastic and are now demanding a respectable ransom.

Accolades and Money? Hah! I’m Russian You Communists!

Grigory Perelman refused to accept the Field Medal, a distinction given by the international mathematical community- he devised a method to accurately prove the shape of the universe among other things- his colleagues praised and championed his work, however Perelman of St. Petersburg refused the award given by King Juan Carlos of Madrid and the million dollar prize money that went along with it. "He had his reasons," commissioned John Ball, President of the host organization, the International Mathematical Union.

Maurice Clarett: Almost… But Not Quite Ninja-Worthy

Anybody who has been reading the sports news knows about Maurice Clarett and his trials and tribulations (or maybe you were just reading one of the numerous ludicrous posts about it on thepimpscorner).

Firstly, this dude got bagged up by the po-po’s for rolling around town with some types of firearm, four bangers and a rocket launcher or something, and for being a general idiot about it.AA You might remember this guy as one of the future premiere running backs of the Denver Broncos… until he got fat and got cut.AA Well, it turns out we now know whyAAthe space-cowboy was carrying that gat… it turns out he’s affiliated with the Israeli Mob!

But anyhow, everyone messes up sometimes… and I quote:

Aug. 18, 2006 a€"AAMaurice Clarett was bankrolled by an alleged member of an Israeli crime organization after leaving Ohio State, ESPN has learned, and Clarett’s attorney said Thursday that his client may have been in possession of firearms last week to protect himself against mob activity.

In the late summer of 2004, ESPN has learned, Clarett traveled to Los Angeles and was introduced by a rapper friend to Hai Waknine, 35, a convicted felon who prosecutors believe is a member of an Israeli crime organization called The Jerusalem Group. Waknine, who at the time was being indicted on extortion and money-laundering charges, became Clarett’s sponsor and adviser, along with Waknine’s attorney, David Kenner. Waknine provided Clarett with cash, a BMW, bodyguards, drivers and beachfront lodging in Malibu, with the understanding that he would be reimbursed and receive 60 percent of Clarett’s rookie contract.

After Clarett was arrested last week, allegedly wearing a bulletproof vest and possessing four guns and a hatchet, Clarett’s attorneys received an anonymous phone call alerting them to Clarett’s ties to Waknine. They grew more suspicious when they received the threatening postcard this week.

[Ed: I actually feel bad for this guy]
